June 24, 1997  Tuesday

This is my first attempt at using Netscape to compose pages.  I'm trying to get some experience with this so that the subsequent diary pages will be filled out by Stephen.  It seems to be pretty easy to use, especially for integrating graphics.  Although not WYSYWIG it is good enough.  Better than hand coding html, I'll say that much.

Today we ran out and bought an Olympus D200-L digital camera for our trip to Italy.  This was our first hi-resolution 640x480 picture.  We will probably only take hi res shots for places that have something exceptional to show.  Because the camera only lets you have 20 hi res shots or 80 low res ones or a mix.  We would've bought a nicer camera except there isn't a big selection here in the sticks of North Carolina.  I would've liked one that took removeable memory, but that was not to be.  And mail order would not have worked because we leave tomorrow for Rome.

Getting the camera to work with the IBM Thinkpad running Win NT Server 4.0 was another debacle in itself.  Thankfully, Glenn Short had the answer by running the Thinkpad features application and disabling the IR port which turns on the serial connector port.  Once that problem was solved, all was well in the Polozoff household.

Kristie was eating her fill of breakfast cereal.  She was really into eating today.  I wonder if she knows we are probably going to starve while we are in Italy or something.  The kitchen is a real mess too.  Glenn is going to have his hands full when he takes over the house!

Can you say "I'm going to miss my Nintendo!!"  Although Kristie isn't in the shot here she has become addicted to the games too.  The second controller is lying there in the background and that is her chair where she sits when she plays.  It is interesting to see how the kids translate this two month trip to Italy into this mad desire to play Nintendo!

Otherwise our day is uneventful.  We're going to run out and wash and vacuum the cars later.  Then we'll settle in for dinner.  We might have to drive to the supermarket and get something.  We are running low on food.  I don't want to be stocking up on food before we leave either.  The kids are pretty well much packed but I have to get around to doing my pack.  I'm going to bear into that tonight.  I guess I still have some laundry to do to be able to do that.  Hm.  Maybe I'll sign off here.
