Update October 10, 2006 Yesterday one of our neighbor's daughter was run over by a car near the intersection.

Update September 6, 2006 Unfortunately, the added signage has not helped the situation at the intersection of Grove and Vale. I captured almost 4 hours of video from Friday September 1, 2006. I condensed that to a 45 minute video. That was far too much video to watch. I put together a piece that is about 7 minutes long.

You will need the latest Adobe flash player to see the video click here to download the latest player. Alternatively you can follow this link to the posting on the youtube.com website.

This video is about 6.35 minutes of scenes of the south side STOP sign on Vale Street at the corner of Grove St. The video is to illustrate one of the contributing factors in the accidents that occur at this intersection. The other contributing factor, of course, is the fact that on Grove Street (the cross street) the 85th percentile is 37.8mph on a posted 30mph roadway. Yes, I know everything in the video is not grammatically correct but I was editing the video on a flight from LaGuardia.

Update August 25, 2006 4pm A meeting was held at City Hall with a number of people from the City, a representative from Representative Brady's office and several neighbors affected by the proposed parking changes. The crash statistics clearly showed accidents occured mostly on weekdays and during business hours when our cars could not have been parked on the street because we were at work. Therefore it was decided that the change in parking would not help reduce accidents at the intersection. Additional signage will be posted alerting drivers of a "stop ahead" and orange flags will be added to the stop signs.
